Wealden announces price freeze on garden waste service until 2024

Wealden District Council has announced a price freeze for its garden waste collection service until 2024.

Wealden councillors made this decision in recognition of the recent disruption to the collection service during the bin strike, and to help residents manage at a time when there are increasing costs of living pressures on households.

This means that Wealden’s garden waste collection service will stay at £55 per bin per year until at least July 2024, meaning the price will have stayed the same for a full three years.

The price for 2023/24 was due to rise to at least £60 per bin per year and, with the current economic climate and increasing inflation, this may have been higher each year.

Councillor Ray Cade, portfolio holder for Waste Services, said, “We are pleased to be able to offer Wealden residents a price freeze on the collection of garden waste bins until 2024.

“I recognize collections were not made due to the strike and understand residents’ frustrations. So, I hope this decision and commitment goes some way to compensating for the inconvenience.”
