Warning to pet owners about using catteries, kennels or home boarders at Christmas

A warning has been issued by Wealden District Council to pet owners urging them to be careful when booking a cattery, kennel or home boarder.

Pet owners are asked to check the animal licencing register before making a booking – especially with Christmas approaching.

Only licensed animal boarding establishments are listed. Pet owners are warned not to use a business if they cannot see their details on this webpage.

Every cattery, kennel and home boarder should have a licence on display on their premises and the number of their licence on their website. If a business is not licenced it may mean their insurance is invalid.

Wealden District Council awards star ratings to business that board animals. Five stars means the highest animal welfare standards; one star is the lowest that can be licenced.

Councillor Philip Lunn, the portfolio holder for public health and community safety at the council, said, “Pet owners, please be careful where you book a holiday for your beloved pet. Make sure the establishment is licenced and choose the higher star ratings. We want you and your pet to have a Happy Christmas.”
