Wadhurst Named Best Place to Live 2023 by The Sunday Times

We are delighted that Wadhurst has been recognised as the best place to live in the UK in 2023 by The Sunday Times.

Wadhurst is in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, one of the best surviving mediaeval landscapes in Northern Europe and its ridgetops provide stunning views over this unspoilt area of ancient countryside. As residents, we are fortunate to have the beauty and tranquillity of nature on our doorstep as well as exceptionally dark skies that make for magical starry nights. There are over 70 miles of footpaths throughout the parish and Bewl Water, the largest inland body of water in the Southeast of England is a ‘gem of the High Weald’ on our doorstep.

Wadhurst is lucky to have a vibrant high street with a good selection of independent shops, cafes and pubs, who have been innovative and risen to recent challenges to the benefit of the community.

We are a relatively small parish, of less than 5,000. What really makes Wadhurst stand out is a strong community spirit with many residents volunteering and getting involved in the numerous local groups to give something back despite the pressures of modern life. People often comment on Wadhurst’s friendly village-feel so much so that residents still refer to it as a village even though it’s been a town since receiving its charter in 1253!

People come to Wadhurst for its historic and natural beauty but stay for its community. The residents are keen to conserve and enhance Wadhurst’s attractiveness as a place to live.
