Mayfield Lane roadworks information from East Sussex Highways

Message from East Sussex Highways: we will be carrying out surface dressing works on Mayfield Lane, Wadhurst shortly.

Surface dressing is a process that involves spraying bitumen binder on to a dry road surface. We then spread stone chippings and roll the surface to help embed the chippings. Due to the nature of this process, the road cannot be swept for 24 hours after it has been laid, during this time, we rely on the action of the traffic to embed the chippings into the road surface. There will be loose chippings for around a week after the surface has been laid. We will usually sweep the road after 24 hours, 3 days and again one week after the new surface has been laid. Following works, advisory 20mph speed limits are put in place. This is to protect road users from loose chippings. More information on surface dressing is available on the following link: https://www.eastsussexhighways.com/surface-dressing

The surface dressing work is scheduled to take place on Friday 18th June 2021 between 9am and 4pm.

After the surface dressing works, we will need to reinstate the lining and cats eyes. This will take place on 30th June and 1st July 2021 between 8pm and 5am each night.

Due to these works being extremely weather dependent, dates are subject to change.

During these works, Mayfield Lane will be closed to through traffic from A267 to Station Road. Traffic will be diverted via A267 Tunbridge Wells Road, A267 Mayfield Road, B2099 Wadhurst Road, B2099 Frant Road, B2099 Station Hill, B2099 Station Road and vice versa.
