Bin Collection Disruption due to Snow and Ice – updated Monday 19th December

Wealden District Council and our waste collection contractor, Biffa, apologise for inconvenience caused by the disruption to waste collections from last week caused by the icy conditions.

bins with snow on the top of themRegrettably the icy conditions on many un-gritted roads and pavements continued all week and into Saturday before the warmer conditions arrived during the course of Sunday.  Despite extensive efforts by the collection crews this meant that catch up collections during the week had limited success and the originally anticipated Saturday collections could not take place.

We appreciate this situation has left some customers without a collection last week and this is frustrating, especially in the lead up to Christmas.  Unfortunately we simply do not have the extra bin lorries and collection crews required to be able to catch up the majority of the missed collections this week.

If your bin collection was affected last week please see below for the latest information:

Rubbish:

Collections this week are taking place as normal.  If your rubbish bin was missed last week we regret we will not be able to make a return collection to empty it this week.  It will be emptied next week, please note that due to the Christmas Day bank holiday collections next week will be taking place 1 day later than normal.  Due to the missed collection, if you have extra rubbish that will not fit into the bin please place it in bin bags beside the bin and the crew will empty the bin and also remove a bin’s worth of bags to get back to normal.

Recycling:

Collections this week are taking place as normal.  If your recycling bin was missed last week we regret we will not be able to make a return collection to empty it this week.  It will be emptied next week, please note that due to the Christmas Day bank holiday collections next week will be taking place 1 day later than normal.  Due to the missed collection, if you have extra recycling that will not fit into the bin please place it in bin non-black bags beside the bin and the crew will empty the bin and also remove a bin’s worth of bags to get back to normal.  Please place any glass bottles and jars into the recycling bin itself rather than bags beside the bin.

Garden Waste:

Collections this week are taking place as normal. If your garden waste bin was missed last week please leave the bin out and our contractor will be making every effort to return and empty the bin this week.  We recognise that after this week garden waste collections will be suspended for the next collection over Christmas and the New Year so we are trying to get as many outstanding garden waste bins emptied from last week as we can.

Pleaser also note that if you prefer to dispose of waste before the next collection, rubbish and recycling can be taken to your local Household Waste Recycling Site (amenity tip). Please use the following link for their locations and opening hours.  Please note that recycling will need to be separated into the different materials for disposal at these sites. https://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/rubbish-recycling/household-waste-recycling-sites

Once again, we apologise for the inconvenience caused by this disruption and thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
